The Charles H. Best Diabetes Centre promotes positive integration of diabetes management into the daily life of children, adolescents and young adults and their families. The provision of comprehensive education and life skill instruction is facilitated through individual sessions at the Centre and in the home. Crisis prevention through ongoing contact (through 24-hour pager, as needed) is provided for specific management issues.

We also provide a support network through empowering partnerships with the health care team at the Centre, by means of social events, newsletters and various support groups for children, youth and parents.

The Charles H. Best Diabetes Centre for children and Youth was founded in 1989 as a "first of its kind" centre in Canada. It is decoted to providing young people and their families with education and support to meet their ongoing diabetes needs.

The Centre received the prestigious Fredrick G. Banting Award in 1990, through the Centre's founder, Marlene Grass RN, a Diabetes Educator.
