"My son and I drove around for hours, trying to find somewhere to go. Unable to contact anyone, I went to the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter. I will never forget the feelings of confusion, pain and helplessness as I stood at that door and rang the buzzer. They opened their door and miraculously had a room for the two of us. Shelter staff were very warm, friendly, and understanding. Little did I know the door I closed at home and the door the Shelter opened to me would be the start of a new life for me and my family."
