| Luke's Place is the first resource and information centre in Canada with the unique focus of supporting woman abuse survivors and their children as they deal with custody and access issues within the Family Court System. While gains have been made to address the Criminal Court's response to woman abuse, there is a pressing need to ensure that the Family Court System knows when they are dealing with an abused woman and develops an informed, safe response that protects woman abuse survivors and their children as they attempt to break free of the abuse.
Luke's place is named in memory of a 3 ½ year old Luke who was brutally murdered by his father on is first unsupervised access visit in August 1997 in Durham Region. |
