ASSET Major Sponsor of Canada's First Credit Education Week

Toronto, CANADA (October 1, 2007) - Canada's first Credit Education Week will take place Nov. 13-16 to help consumers better manage their finances.

Credit Canada, a non-profit credit counseling service and event host, reports that according to a recent study although 90 per cent of Canadians have more debt today than five years ago, more than half lack a personal or household budget.

Additionally, Credit Canada found in an online survey of 4,487 adults that four out of five people surveyed don't know their credit rating or credit score, and one-quarter don't consider the consequences of a rising interest rate environment when borrowing money. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.46 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

Credit Education Week will feature an essay contest for Grade 12 students who will answer how they plan on financing their post-secondary education. Winners of the contest will receive scholarship awards. Credit Education Week will also provide free tools to help consumers secure a promising financial future, Credit Canada said in its press release regarding the event.

ASSET is a co-sponsor of the event and has contributed $10,000.00 to fund the event, including $1,000.00 towards the scholarship rewards that will be presented to the essay contest winners. "ASSET is committed to assisting the public at large in their pursuit of credit and personal finance knowledge and is pleased to support worthy events such as Credit Education Week.", commented William Meany, ASSET Inc.'s President.
